Try blow drying it first (with the comb attachment) and then using the flat iron. You could also try the hot comb. Before you do your hair put an anti-frizz spray or creme in your hair so that your hair will retain the heat. Hope it works.

Well start from the bottom first and all the hair at the top get it out of the way and put it into a bobble.

Grab small parts of your hair starting from the sides and smooth downwards with the straightner, simple really whilst doing it comb or brush your hair to get rid of the frizziness and knottiness.

after use hair spray or serum.

After you straighten your hair put gel in it. Or when you're combing it out point the hair dryer down each strand as you brush. Then straighten. Or uh as you comb a section down have the straighter going right after the brush.

Why not go to a salon and get it done professionally? Since your'e a guy and your hair is shorter than most girls, it shouldnt' cost you too much.

About the frizzies/puffiness - You need hair serum (frizz-ease is a really good one)

First of all it doesn't sound like your iron is hot enough. It should have a temperature guage on it. It needs to be pretty hot to straighten, but go through it quickly so it does not burn your hair and do it in small sections. The thinner the better! Use a thermal oil when straightening such as Redken Heat Glide, just a couple drops. Put in your hair after you blowdry then spray lightly with some type of hairspray as you do each section. Careful not to spray too much, you don't want to sizzle! You should be good to go.
