I've just dyed my hair a vibrant red. It's beautiful and I'd like to keep it this gorgeous colour. Has anyone got any top tips please? And do those coloured shampoos work?

Yes, the color shampoos definitely help keep your color from fading for a little while longer than regular shampoos. Whatever you do, don't use a "clarifying" shampoo as this will strip your hair of its lustrous color (these shampoos are great for removing product buildup on uncolored hair.) Also, refrain from washing your hair every day. Wash it every two to three days, depending on how oily your hair is, and wash your hair in cool water. I have had "red" hair for ten years now, and it fades very quickly without taking these precautions. I have dry hair, but my scalp gets oily so I wet my head every day, wash my hair every 2-3 days, and use a powdered hair refresher (try Stila brand found at Sephora) on my roots to absorb excess oil in between washes. I also use a hot oil treatment to vamp up my color and give me an extra week or so before I have to color it again. Hope this helps!

get shampoo that deposits hair color everytime you wash your hair and it should stay that way it will get dull but you really cant stop that.. try not to wash you hair everyday!! go every other or even three days if you can handle it! Good Luck.. Aveda has good products.. also I would just go to a salon and ask.. you may have to pay some extra money but it will be worth it!! Trust me.. Red is very hard to keep from fading..

I don't know about the color shampoo's, but I do know that if you use shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair, that helps.

If you got it done at a shop, you'll need to go in again in about 6 weeks to get the roots touched up and they will also re-do the rest of it as well.

I was a natural red-head and then I started going Grey too young, so I dye it now myself.

Just keep up on it and take care of your hair and you'll be OK.

Use Johnsons Baby Shampoo and Detangler. The knock off brands dont have the softening agents that the name brand of Jonsons does. Its gentle on your hair, not harsh thus stripping and dulling your color. You can spend a fortune on the others that say they are specially for color treated hair, but its all hype and advertising. Stay with the tried and true, and Johnsons has been an "oldie but goodie" for years ! The others leave a residue that dulls your color.

If you are the type of person that washes there hair everyday you should do this anyway but if you are this person do not wash your hair in very hot water the water such be cool to luke warm or as in between as you can stand.
