Hair tips needed?

I need a simple way to cut my own hair. Most of the salons I have ever been to cut too much off. My hair is to the middle of my back, and I have really bad split ends. Any ideas? Thanks!

I think it is better to let someone do it for you. Ask your mother or sister to do it for yo for example. If it is only trimming, there shouldnt be a problem; simply wet your hair and ask for this favor :)

If you just want to cut it shorter without layers. part your hair down the middle in back, pull forward toward your face and cut in a slant upward. longer part should be near your face and shorter on the outside. use a mirror after you cut the first cut nearest to your face then comb it back and see if it is the lenght you want. I have always cut my own until two years ago when I found an awesome hairdresser. Take your time and you should do fine. If you want layers, cut the lenght as above then hold your hair in sections (parting from top of head to neck) holding it up above your head with two fingers one on either side of the section of hair then pull upward until the bottom of the section falls. Then cut what is over your fingers straight across. hope this helps.

My sis in law has very long hair (so do I) but she is brave enough to cut her own. She stands up, bends over forward putting her head by her knees and flipping her hair over. Then she combs it (while wet) straight down, then cuts it straight accross. She does a very good job at it. I don't do my own because I prefer layers. Hope that helps!

I used to go to salon's to have my hair trimmed as well. I found they cut off to much and it bothered me. I left the salon feeling like my hair was hacked.

My sister then went to school to be a stylist. I asked her how to prevent this from happening and she recommended that I inform the stylist, in a very polite and friendly manner, that I would only be paying for the hair cut if there wasn't more then what I asked for trimmed off the ends. Inform the stylist that you are trying to grow it out and only want half and inch taken off. This is the length cut in most trims. I was lucky enough to find a stylist after a long while that I trusted.
